1st Grade
Dear Parents and Guardians,
In first grade we are learning to love school as well as working on our sight words, becoming fluent readers, working on our math skills, science topics, and becoming good citizens.
I believe once children like being at school, they will become life-long learners.
I use rewards as positive reinforcement for good behavior much more than negative reinforcement. Rewarding good behavior is much more effective then punishment. As well as teaching the children what to do, it helps them like being kind and having good behavior and like being at school.
Students will have homework Monday through Thursday. The homework will always be reading or writing with math pages a couple times a week. The homework should take 30 minutes at the most. If you notice the homework is taking more than 30 minutes, please end the homework for that night. Homework assignments that are not complete will not hurt your child's grade. If you notice the homework is taking longer than 30 minutes on a regular basis, please send me a note and I will change how much homework is being sent home.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to put a note in your child's Take Home Folder or email me at [email protected].
Parents and teachers working together is always a benefit for the children.
