STUDENT ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

  • Students are allowed on the playground beginning at 7:45 a.m.

  • Students should NOT come to school before 7:45 am unless they have an appointment with a teacher.

  • Students may not leave the playground once they arrive at school.

  • Only students in grades K-1 are allowed to play in the small playground located in the rear of the primary building.

  • Students in grades 2nd - 8th are only allowed in the area between the primary and intermediate/upper grade buildings.

  • Parents of children in grades K-8 must drop off and pick up students at the appropriate doors.

  • Students are to leave the playground immediately after dismissal and head toward home. They are welcome to return to play.

ABSENCE

  • Students must attend school regularly and be on time.

  • Report Absences Electronically! You can now submit, schedule, and track student absences through the Aspen Parent Portal.  You can sign in to your account at ASPEN.CPS.EDU and start using the E-Absence feature.

  • Each day a student is absent, a parent or guardian is required to notify the school of their child’s absence.

  • If parents or guardians cannot use the E-Absence feature, they are required to send a note with the children giving the reason for the absence on the day of the student’s return. Reason for absence note.  Nota de razon de ausencia.  Usprawiedliwienie nieobecnosci

  • Please see the Chicago Board of Education Attendance Policy for valid reason for excused absences. BOTH of these conditions must be met for the absence to be considered an excused absence. Otherwise the student is considered to be truant.  All notes must be received by the end of the month in which the absence occurred.

 TARDINESS

  • Any student arriving after 8:05 is considered tardy and will not be admitted to class without a tardy slip.

  • Tardiness is very disruptive to the educational process for your child and the others in the classroom.

  • Please get your child to school on time.

 REASON FOR ABSENCE

  • Please call the school’s attendance line on the morning of your child’s absence. 773-534-3520  (select option 3).

  • Parents allowing their children to stay home from school and become truant are violating the law and may be prosecuted. Excessive absences will result in failing grades.

  • You can use E-ABSECE to submit, schedule, and track student absences through the Aspen Parent Portal.

 EARLY DISMISSAL AND FAMILY VACATIONS

  • Early dismissals are extremely disruptive to the school day and should be for emergency purposes only.

  • Early dismissals count as absences.

  • Please make doctor and dental appointments on non-attendance school days.

  • Family vacations during the school year are unexcused absences and highly discouraged.

  • Students will only be released to an adult on a child’s emergency form.

 PARENT VISITS AND CONFERENCES

  • Parents are welcome to visit the school and to visit their child’s classroom; however, these visits must be arranged ahead of time with the teacher.

  • Parent conferences should be scheduled with individual teachers. Please make an appointment ahead of time.

  • Parents may also schedule conferences during a teacher’s preparatory time. Conferences may not take place during a teacher’s instructional time.

  • Parents must stop in the office, sign in, and receive a visitor’s pass.

  • Teachers may not be interrupted during class to answer phone calls or talk to a parent. Please call before or after school and leave a message. The teacher will return your call promptly. Every teacher has a CPS email account and this is often an easier and better way to communicate with your child’s teacher.
